Thames Valley Cancer Alliance (TVCA) will attend ‘Revive Aylesbury’ on Saturday 22 October 2022.
The free event will bring together minority ethnic communities for advice on better healthcare and wellbeing.
An NHS doctor from TVCA will give a presentation about the increased risk Black men have of getting prostate cancer. It is the most common cancer in men. 1 in 8 men in England will get prostate cancer – and 1 in 4 Black men. They could be a dad, uncle, brother, partner, son, or best friend.
The doctor will also talk about the risks and symptoms of lung cancer. He will outline how quitting smoking is the single most effective way of increasing your chances of not developing lung cancer.
“Attending ‘Revive Aylesbury’ is an important part of TVCA’s Cancer Allies programme which seeks to reduce health inequalities amongst communities throughout the Thames Valley,” says Abi Odubayo, TVCA Head of Programmes.
“Cancer Allies is about building relations with communities within our region so we can help increase the number of people who get an early diagnosis for cancer.”
TVCA will also welcome interest from any visitors to the event who are interested in working with us to tackle health inequalities in BAME communities, as part of our Cancer Allies activity. Such involvement can help shape cancer services in our region.
