Cancer Screening Programmes

Cancer screening helps identify apparently healthy people who may be at increased risk of developing a disease or condition. The three national NHS cancer screening programmes – bowel, breast, and cervical – save lives and improve quality of life by enabling earlier diagnosis and treatment.

Cancer screening plays a central part in achieving the NHS Long Term Plan ambition that by 2028, 75% of cancers should be diagnosed at stage 1 or 2.

Across the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance, improving participation in cancer screening is our priority too.  We are working closely with screening and immunisations teams, primary care teams and other partners to increase uptake and reduce inequalities through a range of targeted projects.
