Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) are a vital part of cancer care. They work alongside doctors, nurses and support staff to help people live as well as possible through diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
AHPs play a vital role in delivering high-quality cancer care across the patient pathway. From diagnosis through treatment and recovery, AHPs support patients to achieve the best possible outcomes and quality of life.
Within Thames Valley, we are working with partners to strengthen the AHP workforce and ensure patients benefit from timely, coordinated and holistic care.

AHPs contribute to cancer care in a wide range of settings and roles, including:
- Supporting diagnosis through imaging and diagnostic services
- Delivering prehabilitation and rehabilitation to improve treatment outcomes
- Providing nutritional support to help patients maintain strength during treatment
- Supporting communication, swallowing and speech through specialist therapies
- Contributing to palliative and supportive care to improve quality of life
