Thames Valley Cancer Alliance (TVCA) will attend Access All Areas. These are two free events to help young people and adults with a learning disability or autism to live a great and healthy life.
They will be held at The Gateway, Aylesbury on Friday 21 October and at Highcrest Academy, High Wycombe on Thursday 27 October. Both events are organised by Buckinghamshire Council.
The events will showcase services that support young people and adults with a learning disability or autism. Exhibitors will offer guidance on how you can stay healthy, physically, mentally, and emotionally fulfilled, and as independent as possible. Families and carers are welcome to attend too.
Talk to the team
Members of the TVCA team will be available to talk about how to access screening for cervical, bowel, breast, and lung cancers. They can also let you know if you are eligible for these tests. They are happy to talk to cancer patients who are attending the event about living with cancer and beyond.
“As part of our Cancer Allies programme, we want to ensure that more people in the Thames Valley who have a learning disability are aware of cancer screening programmes and how to access them,” says Abi Odubayo, TVCA Head of Programmes.
“The Cancer Allies programme is about building relations with local communities. This will help increase the number of people who get an early diagnosis for cancer.”
TVCA also welcomes interest from any visitors who have experience of cancer either as a patient or carer, and who would like to become a TVCA volunteer. TVCA volunteer representatives ensure the patient voice is heard. They work closely with clinical experts to help shape cancer services in our region.
