Prevention and ED

Focus of this programme

Linked to the NHS Long Term Plan, this programme has two main focuses:

  1. By 2028, the proportion of cancers diagnosed at stage 1 and 2 will rise to three-quarters of cancer patients
  2. From 2028, 55,000 more people each year will survive their cancer for at least five years after diagnosis

We are currently look to achieve these targets through:

  • cancer awareness campaigns, eg Lung cancer screening, #TVCAKnowYourCancerRisk
  • support and guidance on two week wait cancer pathways and referral re-design, eg FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) and Lower GI Pathway
  • increasing screening, through quality improvement projects in Primary Care, such as our Quality Improvement Scheme
  • improved prostate cancer risk assessment and diagnosis via PSA testing as appropriate
  • GP education via our Thames Valley Cancer Alliance GP Education Strategy.
