TVCA at Learning Disabilities Event

Thames Valley Cancer Alliance (TVCA) will attend Live Better, Live Longer, an event for people with learning disabilities, and their carers, in Oxford on Tuesday 28 June 2022.

If you have a learning disability, this is a free drop-in health event for you to find out what you can do to improve your health.  Healthcare and charity professionals will be available to give you free advice on:

  • healthy living
  • how to get screening
  • support for carers

Members of the TVCA team will be able to talk to you about how to get screening for cervical, bowel, breast and lung cancers, and who can have these tests. They are also happy to talk to cancer patients who are attending the event about living with cancer and beyond.

“Our Cancer Allies programme is to make sure that more people in the Thames Valley region who have a learning disability are aware of the four cancer screening services and how to access them,” says Abi Odubayo, TVCA Head of Programmes.

“Cancer Allies is about building relations with communities within our region so we can help increase the number of people who get an early diagnosis for cancer.”

TVCA will also welcome interest from any visitors to the event who have experience of cancer either as a patient or carer, and who would like to become a TVCA volunteer. TVCA volunteer representatives ensure the patient voice is heard. This is very important for people with learning disabilities. They also work closely with clinical experts to help shape cancer services in our region.

Drop-in and meet the TVCA team between 10:00am to 4:00pm on Tuesday 28 June 2022, at the Unipart Conference Suite, Garsington Road, Oxford OX4 2PG.
