Priority populations

Reducing cancer health inequalities means focusing on the people most likely to face barriers to screening, diagnosis, treatment and support.

We use the Core20Plus5 approach, adapted for Thames Valley. This focuses on:

  • the most deprived 20% of the population
  • additional groups identified through data and local insight

Who we focus on

In Thames Valley, priority populations include:

  • People living in areas of higher deprivation
  • People from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities
  • People with learning disabilities
  • Health inclusion groups facing complex barriers to care

How we identify priority populations

We combine:

  • Local data
  • Clinical insight
  • Community engagement

This helps us understand where inequalities exist and where support is needed most.
