FIT in secondary Care

Faecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT) in secondary care

Faecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT) is used in secondary care to support the assessment of patients with lower gastrointestinal symptoms.

FIT helps clinicians:

  • Assess the risk of colorectal cancer
  • Prioritise patients appropriately
  • Support decision-making alongside clinical judgement

Within Thames Valley, we support consistent and evidence-based use of FIT across secondary care services.

Our role

  • Supporting alignment with national guidance
  • Monitoring variation in use and outcomes
  • Sharing learning and best practice across organisations

FIT is one tool within the wider diagnostic pathway and should always be used alongside clinical assessment.
